As we have throughout the pandemic, we continue to adapt and adjust and to take the measures necessary to support a healthy, safe campus and to minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19 on our campuses.
With COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations again on the rise in Alberta, NAIT has joined 8 other Alberta post-secondary institutions to introduce a vaccine mandate and require proof of vaccination to attend campus. Vaccinations are the safest and most effective way to protect communities from COVID-19.
Starting November 8, everyone coming to NAIT campuses, including students, staff, contractors and visitors, will need to be fully vaccinated and to provide proof of vaccination.
Campus community members are considered fully vaccinated once they have
- received two doses of a World Health Organization approved COVID-19 vaccine in a two-dose vaccine series or one dose in a one-dose vaccine series; and
- had 14 days elapse since the date on which the person received the second dose of the World Health Organization approved COVID-19 vaccine of a two-dose series or one dose of the vaccine in a one-dose vaccine series
This means that students, staff, contractors and visitors will need to receive their second dose on or before October 24.
Get vaccinated
Those who still need a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine should get one immediately. Visit the Government of Alberta’s vaccine page to book your shot and for more information about the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines.
Additionally, NAIT is working with Alberta Health Services to offer on-campus vaccination clinics on September 22 and 23. Please note that appointments are limited, so book your shot now.
Individuals can establish their vaccination status using electronic or paper records of their vaccination receipt. In Alberta, official vaccine records are available on MyHealth Records. The collection of proof of vaccination will be carried out in full accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
NAIT’s COVID-19 Advisory Committee and the Coordinated Response Team are working to finalize our mandatory vaccine policies and procedures and the process for providing proof of vaccination. This information will be shared as soon as possible.
NAIT will evaluate and accommodate those who are unable to be vaccinated against COVID-19 due to a diagnosed medical condition or in accordance with a protected ground under the Alberta Human Rights Act. More information about how to seek accommodation will be provided as soon as possible.
Campus community members who cannot establish that they are fully vaccinated or who have not obtained a valid exemption before November 8 will NOT be permitted on campus.
Information for students
We understand students who do not intend to be fully vaccinated by November 8 or who do not want to provide proof of vaccination may consider withdrawing from their classes or, where possible, switching to online sections.
We have extended the withdrawal deadline to September 24 for degree, diploma and certificate students and for apprenticeship and continuing education courses that continue past the November 8 vaccination deadline.
