COVID-19 Update for April 28: What to expect for spring term

Posted: Apr 28, 2022 9:59 AM   |  Updated: Feb 24, 2023 4:18 PM

As we get ready to start the spring term, we continue to prioritize the health and safety of the NAIT community and to take steps to minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19 on campus.

While numbers fluctuate, since late March, we have seen an overall increase in cases reported to NAIT, which aligns with increased cases being reported to Alberta Health Services and trends observed in Edmonton wastewater data.

Preventing the spread of COVID-19 on campus

Safety on campus is a shared responsibility and we must continue the good practices we have developed during the pandemic by following the health and safety requirements and practices outlined below:

  • Safety training is required each term for students and once during the 2021/22 academic year for staff. Students should refer to the email sent by their program for instructions on how to access and complete the training.
  • NAIT staff and students are required to complete a COVID-19 declaration acknowledging their responsibility to follow NAIT and provincial requirements. All staff and students must complete this each term. For spring term, the declaration must be completed and sent to your program designate or supervisor by May 13.
  • We strongly recommend people wear a mask in all indoor public spaces on our campuses and at NAIT facilities.
  • Follow these instructions if you get sick. Stay home if you are not feeling well, even if you are vaccinated and have tested negative. If you get sick while on campus, go home. If you test positive for COVID-19 and have been on campus over the previous 14 days, you are required to complete a COVID-19 incident report through myCority.
  • Vaccination is the best way to prevent severe illness and death, and booster shots can prolong immunity to improve protection and limit spread. We continue to encourage everyone to be fully vaccinated and to get their booster shots as soon as they are eligible.

NAIT continues to take steps to minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19 on our campuses; we have upgraded building ventilation and increased air circulation and filtration to reduce potential airborne spread.

We continue to monitor available information and public health guidance  and will adjust our approach as required.

Managing through the pandemic

We recognize the pandemic has added stress and uncertainty to our lives and that it can take a toll on everyone's well-being and mental health. While life has its challenges, remember that you don't have to face them alone.

Please take care of yourself and those around you and be sure to access the many health and well-being resources available to support you when needed.

Working together to keep each other safe

Thank you to everyone for continuing to do your part to keep our campus community safe.

Stay up-to-date with the latest information on NAIT’s response to COVID-19 at nait.ca/covid19. We will continue to communicate to the NAIT community as we have new information to share.
