COVID-19 Update for Oct. 7: Starting Saturday, proof of vaccination or negative rapid test result required

Posted: Oct 7, 2021 10:27 AM   |  Updated: Mar 10, 2022 1:46 PM

After October 8, proof of at least a first vaccine dose or of a negative COVID-19 rapid test result is a requirement to be on any NAIT campus.

Thank you to everyone who has already uploaded proof of vaccination. If you haven’t already, upload your proof of at least a first dose as soon as possible.

If you are providing proof of a negative test result, it must be a privately paid COVID-19 PCR or rapid test completed within the 72 hours before coming to campus. Tests from Alberta Health Services or Alberta Precision Laboratories will not be accepted.

Your proof of vaccination or negative test result must be confirmed by NAIT Risk Management Services through our verification process before you come to campus. Please allow time for our teams to verify your documents. Proof of a negative test result must be uploaded by noon the day before you plan to be on campus or by noon Friday for weekend courses.

Once your proof of vaccination or negative test result is verified by NAIT Risk Management Services, you will receive a green QR code within the NAIT Alert app indicating that you are approved to come to campus. You are required to show the QR code when asked. The green NAIT vaccine QR code, which can be printed, is the only acceptable form of proof for staff and students.

If you are submitting a negative test result, it will be considered valid for 72 hours from the date of the test. Once your test result has expired, your QR code will change to red and you will need to provide another negative test result to return to campus.

If you have initiated a request for an accommodation, you will need to provide a negative test result to come to campus.

If you are fully vaccinated, you will only need to upload proof that you are fully vaccinated once during the 2021/22 academic year.

Please note: After NAIT’s vaccine policy comes into effect November 8, everyone coming to campus must provide proof they are fully vaccinated with a World Health Organization approved COVID-19 vaccine. Rapid testing will not be accepted as an alternative to vaccination, except for staff and students who have an approved accommodation, or who have submitted their completed medical documentation or other relevant documentation to support their request for an accommodation.

How to provide proof of vaccination or a negative test result

Follow these steps to provide proof of a vaccination or a negative test result through NAIT Alert:

  • Download the free NAIT Alert app through Google Play or the App store. Alternatively, you can access NAIT Alert through your internet browser
  • Open the NAIT Alert app and select COVID Information > Vaccine Verification
  • Log in with your NAIT credentials, or create a guest account (if the app does not display a log-in page, then you are already logged in)
  • Select your application option (online or in person) and your vaccination status, then follow the instructions. If you require an accommodation, please read the accommodation information.

Once you have completed your submission, you will receive an email confirming we have received your proof of vaccination or a negative test result. You will be able to view the status of your application in the NAIT Alert app.
