COVID-19 Update for March 10: Changes to mask requirements at NAIT

Posted: Mar 10, 2022 1:33 PM   |  Updated: Apr 4, 2022 10:06 AM

Effective Monday, March 14, face masks will no longer be required but strongly recommended for any person in an indoor public space on NAIT campuses or in NAIT facilities. Masks continue to be required in Health Services offices or where masks are part of the standard personal protective equipment.

We recognize this change may present challenges for some and we will follow the existing accommodation process for students.

We want to assure you that the health and safety of the NAIT community remains top of mind as we navigate the ever-changing realities of the pandemic.

This decision was informed by public health guidance, the trajectory of the pandemic and the needs of the community. It aligns with provincial and municipal masking requirements as part of Alberta's phased approach to easing restrictions. As well, the number of cases reported to NAIT Health Services is trending down even as more people return to campus.

Where to get masks on campus

As masking is strongly recommended at NAIT, masks are available at the shop at NAIT bookstore and in some vending machines.

Keeping each other safe

We are monitoring available information and public health guidance and will adjust our approach as required. The risk of transmission of COVID-19 is low on NAIT’s campuses and we will continue to take steps to minimize this risk.

We also continue to ask members of the campus community to take steps to support a safe work and learning environment. After all, safety on campus is a shared responsibility. We can all contribute by

  • getting vaccinated
  • staying home when sick
  • choosing to wear a mask in indoor public spaces
  • practicing good hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, such as covering your cough

NAIT is a highly vaccinated campus community thanks to the cooperative efforts of staff and students to protect themselves and each other. We continue to encourage everyone to be fully vaccinated and to get their booster shots as soon as they are eligible.

Thank you

Thank you for your patience and resilience as we continue to respond to the ever-changing realities of the pandemic. Please be kind and understanding as everyone makes the choice around masking that is best for them.

We will continue to communicate to the NAIT community at nait.ca/covid19 when we have new information to share.
