COVID-19 Update for July 29: What Alberta’s updated health measures mean for NAIT

Yesterday, the Government of Alberta announced that they will begin to gradually bring COVID-19 measures in line with other respiratory viruses. This means removing most quarantine and isolation requirements, refocusing contact tracers on high-risk settings, removing mandatory masking orders, and changing testing practices. The changes are in response to Alberta’s vaccination rates. Some of these changes are effective today, while others come into effect August 16.

NAIT is reviewing the changes announced yesterday to determine how they impact our campuses and our own health and safety measures. We will share more information with our community soon.

In the meantime, everyone coming to NAIT is reminded to

• Perform daily check-ins and screen for symptoms before coming to campus
• Stay home when sick and report if you test positive for COVID-19

Masks continue to be required in classrooms, lecture theatres, labs and workshops, as well as Health Services offices. Although not required, we strongly encourage masks in all indoor public spaces on our campuses.

Get vaccinated

While the COVID-19 vaccine is voluntary in Alberta, we encourage members of the NAIT community to get their vaccine as soon as they are eligible. This is the best way to help protect yourself and others. Please visit the Government of Alberta’s vaccine page to book your shot and for more information about the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines.
