COVID-19 Update for Feb. 25: What to expect as we welcome more staff and students to campus

Posted: Feb 25, 2022 2:22 PM   |  Updated: Mar 10, 2022 1:50 PM

As we welcome more students and staff to our campuses next week, the health, safety and well-being of the NAIT community remain our top priorities. Please continue to be kind and understanding with one another as we transition through this next phase of the pandemic.

Here is what you need to know about supporting a safer campus community.

Campus safety measures

Most winter term theory and lecture classes that were originally scheduled on campus will return to in-person learning as planned, starting Monday, February 28.

Classes originally scheduled for virtual delivery will continue online as planned, while shops and labs continue on campus.

We have strong health and safety measures in place that have helped reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19 on our campuses throughout the pandemic.

Masking requirements remain in place

For now, masks continue to be required in all indoor public spaces on our campuses.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will keep you informed of any decisions to adjust NAIT’s masking requirements in the future.

Working together to keep each other safe

Safety on campus is a shared responsibility. We can all contribute by

  • getting vaccinated
  • staying home when sick, even if vaccinated. If you get sick on campus, go home
    • Complete a COVID-19 incident report through myCority if you test positive for COVID-19
  • wearing masks as required
  • maintaining at least 2 metres of physical distance between yourself and others in common areas
  • practicing good hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, such as covering your cough

Get vaccinated

Effective February 28, staff and students no longer need to upload proof of vaccination to NAIT Alert, and contractors and tenants will not be required to provide attestations.

NAIT is a highly vaccinated campus community thanks to the cooperative efforts of staff and students to protect themselves and each other. As more people come to campus over the coming days and weeks, we continue to encourage everyone to be fully vaccinated and to get their booster shots as soon as they are eligible.

COVID-19 training for new students

Apprentices starting next week are reminded to do the following by the end of their first week of classes

Campus services

We are committed to providing students with the services and supports needed to make this term a success, whether learning on-campus or virtually. The facilities and services page has the latest information on what’s open on campus and how to access NAIT services. Information is also available on the MyNAIT Portal

A kind, inclusive campus

NAIT is an inclusive community. It is everyone’s responsibility to help each other through this transition with kindness and compassion.

Each of us will feel differently as restrictions begin to ease. Some will embrace this stage, while others will feel anxious. This is understandable, and we encourage members of the NAIT community to reach out for any support you need.

Thank you to everyone for continuing to do your part to keep our campus community safe.

We anticipate an announcement from Government of Alberta in the coming days about moving to Phase 2 of its planned easing of public health measures and will continue to communicate to the NAIT community at nait.ca/covid19 as we have new information to share.
