COVID-19 Update for June 14: Province to remove remaining COVID-19 public health restrictions

Posted: Jun 14, 2022 2:18 PM   |  Updated: Jun 21, 2022 8:15 AM

The Government of Alberta announced that the province will be moving into step 3 of the lifting of public health measures, and all remaining COVID-19 health restrictions will be removed today at 11:59 p.m. Isolation will be recommended rather than mandatory, and masks will no longer be required on public transit.

We are reviewing the impact of these changes to the campus community and will share an update as soon as possible at nait.ca/COVID19.

While we work through the impact of these changes to NAIT, the following measures remain in effect:

  • Though isolation is not mandatory for those who test positive for or have symptoms of COVID-19, it is recommended that you stay home if you are sick. Students, please notify your instructor or program designate. Staff, please notify your supervisor.
  • If you test positive for COVID-19 and have been on campus within the previous 14 days, please complete and submit a COVID-19 Incident Report through the myCority application which will send the report directly to Health Services.

Help NAIT maintain a safe learning environment

  • We encourage everyone coming to our campuses to be fully vaccinated and to get their booster shots as soon as they are eligible. Vaccination against COVID-19 remains the best way to prevent severe illness and death, and booster shots can prolong immunity to improve protection and limit spread.
  • We strongly recommend wearing a mask in all public indoor spaces on our campuses and facilities. Masks continue to be required in Health Services offices or where masks are part of the standard personal protective equipment.
  • We encourage you to maintain 2 metres of physical distancing in common areas.
  • Practice good hygiene – keep your hands clean, cover your coughs and sneezes, and avoid sharing personal items like utensils and water bottles.

Please continue to be kind and understanding with one another as we transition through this next phase of the pandemic. We encourage members of the NAIT community to reach out to one another for support and to access the many resources available.

Thank you for continuing to do your part to keep the NAIT community safe.
