COVID-19 Update for August 25: What to expect for fall term

Posted: Aug 25, 2022 9:42 AM   |  Updated: Sep 7, 2022 2:05 PM

As we get ready to start the fall term, we would like to provide you with information on COVID-19 measures in place at NAIT. Last spring, we adjusted our COVID-19 health and safety measures in response to changing public health guidance, the trajectory of the pandemic and the needs of the community.

The following measures are in place:

Staying home while sick is a recommendation

While isolation is no longer mandatory for those who test positive for or have symptoms of COVID-19, it is recommended that you stay home if you are sick with COVID-19 or any other cold or flu. Students, please notify your instructor or program designate. Staff, please notify your supervisor.

We will support student progression through courses where possible. Staff will follow standard practice and collective agreement requirements regarding medical notes and use of casual and general illness, and Special Leave usage.

Reporting COVID-19 cases on campus

To comply with OHS requirements, we ask that students and staff complete a COVID-19 incident report through myCority if they test positive within 14 days of being on campus. We continue to monitor COVID-19 case counts and assess their impact to NAIT campus operations in accordance with Alberta OHS legislation.

RCT 100 COVID-19 Awareness training

Students and staff are no longer required to complete the RCT 100 COVID-19 Awareness Training, but it is still available to review as a resource. Up-to-date information about safety measures can still be found on our COVID-19 microsite.

Mask usage

We support masking in all public spaces on NAIT campuses and at NAIT facilities. Masks continue to be required in Health Services offices or where masks are part of the standard personal protective equipment. Masks continue to be available through shop at NAIT.

Help NAIT maintain a safe learning environment

  • We encourage everyone coming to our campuses to be fully vaccinated and to get their booster shots as soon as they are eligible. Vaccination against COVID-19 remains the best way to prevent severe illness and death, and booster shots can prolong immunity to improve protection and limit spread.
  • Practice good hygiene – keep your hands clean, cover your coughs and sneezes, and avoid sharing personal items like utensils and water bottles.

Please continue to be kind and understanding with one another. We encourage members of the NAIT community to reach out to one another for support and to access the many resources available.

Thank you for continuing to do your part to keep the NAIT community safe.
