COVID-19 Update for Jan. 4: Health and safety protocols for winter term

Posted: Jan 4, 2021 9:58 AM   |  Updated: Jan 4, 2021 9:52 AM

We are excited that you will be learning at NAIT this term!

As you begin the term, we want to assure you that the health, safety and well-being of our community remain NAIT's top priorities. We continue to implement health and safety protocols to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission on our campuses.

This update outlines safety requirements for all students, as well as specific steps you must take if coming to campus.

You can find the most current information for students on our COVID-19 website.

Requirements for all students

  • Stay home if you are sick and follow the directions on nait.ca/IfSick. If you tested positive for COVID-19 over the holidays or feel sick when you are scheduled to return to campus, follow the directions outlined in this update. Coming to campus when sick puts others at risk and violates mandatory quarantine and isolation requirements. Please know that your program area will support you in making up missed assignments and labs.

  • Sign the online Student Responsibility Declaration. All students are required to complete the declaration each term and email your confirmation to your program designate.

  • Complete the COVID-19 Awareness Training for Students by the end of this week. All students are required to take the training in Moodle. This is required at the beginning of each term, regardless of whether it’s been completed previously.

Before coming to campus

  • Complete the Check-in Form each day you come to campus and for each location in which you spend more than 15 minutes.
  • Screen for symptoms every day and follow directions from Alberta Health Services.
  • Download the NAIT Alert app for quick access to the Check-in Form and the COVID-19 Self-Assessment.

Stay safe on campus

  • Wear a mask or face covering in all indoor publicly accessible spaces.
  • Follow campus signage and safety instructions, maintain physical distancing of 2 metres and practice good physical hygiene.

COVID-19 cases on campus

We know that you have questions about what happens if a member of the NAIT community tests positive for COVID-19. NAIT is monitoring and responding to positive cases on our campuses. We are committed to keeping you informed if you may be impacted.

  • If you were in close contact with an individual who later tested positive for COVID-19, you will be contacted directly by your program and advised to quarantine and get tested.

  • Your program will also let you know if you may have been in the same space at the same time with an individual who later tested positive for COVID-19.

Services and supports

We know this is a year like no other and we are committed to supporting you.

Your instructors, of course, are here for you as well. Please reach out to them as needed.

Best wishes on your studies this term!

Josh Bowen
Director, Relaunch Coordination Team
