COVID Update for June 15: Apprenticeship training will resume starting this fall

Posted: Jun 15, 2020 8:33 AM

We are making plans to resume NAIT’s apprenticeship training starting in September. We will use the same approach for apprenticeship training as NAIT is using for all programs, where virtual learning will be maximized and in-person shops will be offered when learning outcomes cannot be met through virtual delivery and where safety guidelines can be followed.

We arrived at this approach after reviewing the provincial health guidelines and NAIT’s relaunch strategy and after careful consideration of the unique type of training NAIT delivers. We recognize the learning environment will be different and we are committed to delivering the exceptional apprenticeship training NAIT is known for, in the safest way possible.

We are working closely with Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) as we make our plans to ensure our training meets industry needs and prepares apprentices to work in their fields. We are exploring exciting opportunities to enhance our hands-on training with unique virtual experiences. Our instructors and program leaders will lean on their deep industry experience and expertise as we adapt and innovate how we deliver our programs.

Shifting to a new way of delivering our training will not be without challenges. We know there will be learnings ahead for all of us. Our team is focused on supporting apprentices through this time and our goal is to continue to provide them with the best possible training experience at NAIT.

AIT will soon be announcing when apprenticeship registration will open and will share more details on the upcoming training. Please continue to check AIT’s website for these updates. In the meantime, if you have questions or would like to discuss your apprenticeship, please contact AIT or your NAIT program chair.

We will get through this challenging time together. Stay safe.
