COVID-19 Update for Oct. 8: What to expect on campus as our vaccine requirements come into effect

Posted: Oct 8, 2021 3:22 PM   |  Updated: Oct 8, 2021 4:09 PM

Starting tomorrow, NAIT will begin our proof of vaccination program as we work toward full implementation of our vaccine policy, which goes into effect November 8. Thank you in advance for your cooperation as we introduce the new requirements.

Please make sure you familiarize yourself with the following NAIT vaccination requirements before you come to campus. More information and answers to common questions can be found at nait.ca/vaccine.

What to do before you come to campus

Before you are scheduled to be on campus, you will need to follow these steps.

  • Students and staff, upload your proof of at least a first dose or a negative test result as soon as possible to NAIT Alert. Full details on this process and requirements can be found at nait.ca/vaccine. Please allow time for our teams to verify your documents. It could take up to 48 hours for your proof of vaccination to be verified. Proof of a negative test result must be uploaded by noon the day before you plan to be on campus or by noon Friday if you need to be on campus on the weekend.
  • Make sure you have required proof and photo ID ready. Once you have proof of vaccination or a negative test result verified by NAIT Risk Management Services, you will receive a green QR code within the NAIT Alert app indicating that you are approved to come to campus. Campus visitors will also be able to show a paper or electronic record from the health provider who administered the vaccine or a government-issued record of their vaccination history. One AT NAIT cards or government-issued identification will be accepted as photo ID.
  • Students and staff, if you need to request an accommodation, initiate a request as soon as possible through NAIT Alert. Information on how to request an accommodation can be found at nait.ca/VaccineAccommodation. In order to come to campus after October 8, you will be required to submit proof of a negative test result through the NAIT Alert app.
  • Review the on-campus health and safety requirements. Read the Coming to Campus checklist and be prepared to follow all measures.

What to expect while on campus

Starting October 12, NAIT Protective Services will operate structured rotating checks at campus entrances.

Students, staff and visitors coming to campus will need to be prepared to show proof of vaccination or a negative rapid test along with photo ID. The green NAIT vaccine QR code in NAIT Alert, which can be printed, is the only acceptable form of proof for staff and students.

Next week, students and visitors who do not have proof will be directed to information about our vaccine requirements. Starting October 18, those who are unable to provide acceptable proof will be asked to leave campus.

As we work toward November 8, we will increase entrance checks on campus. Please give yourself extra time to get to your classes or work area as there could be delays during busy times.

Starting next week, staff who do not comply with the requirements will be contacted by their supervisor or Human Resources and will be placed on an unpaid leave of absence immediately if they continue to be unwilling to comply.

Some campus services may require proof of vaccination or a negative test to enter the location.

Some classes to remain online

In-person classes that shifted online in September will continue to be delivered online until at least November 8.

We will make decisions about how these classes will be delivered after November 8 based on learning requirements and the provincial health guidance we receive. More information will be communicated to impacted students closer to this date.

Thank you

We appreciate your patience as we implement our vaccine policy. Thank you for doing your part to keep our campuses safe and healthy for everyone.
