NAIT has been working hard throughout our response to COVID-19 to ensure as many students as possible will be able to complete their courses. We have decided to change the grading system for this term.
New grading system
For all Winter 2020 term degree, diploma and certificate courses, students will receive grades using an honours/pass/fail system instead of percentage grades.
- H (honours) indicates course expectations have been exceeded
- P (pass) indicates course expectations have been met
- F (fail) indicates course expectations have not been met
The only exceptions to this grading system will be for programs where percentage grades are required for accreditation or licensure requirements. If you are in one of these classes, your program will reach out to you by March 30.
At this time, we anticipate we will be able to continue with our normal practice of grading with percentages for spring and summer course delivery.
New withdrawal deadline
To give students more time to understand these changes and determine if you are able to continue in your course, NAIT has extended the withdrawal deadline for Winter 2020 courses in progress to Wednesday, April 1, 2020 (unless your course already has a later withdrawal date).
If you are considering withdrawing, we encourage you to speak with your program first.
Commitment to student success
We believe this new grading system will help our students progress, while also ensuring equity and preservation of academic integrity during these exceptional circumstances.
These are challenging times for all of us and we are working to minimize the disruption to your studies, wherever possible.
If you have any questions or concerns, please review the FAQs on the Information for Students page or reach out to your instructor and chair.
Changes to apprenticeship training were communicated in a previous update.
