COVID-19 Update for Oct. 15: How we are enforcing our vaccination requirements

Posted: Oct 15, 2021 8:42 AM   |  Updated: Mar 10, 2022 1:47 PM

Starting October 18, students and visitors who can't provide appropriate proof of vaccination or of a negative rapid test will be asked to leave campus.

NAIT Protective Services will continue to operate structured rotating checks at campus entrances. Students may also be asked to show proof of vaccination when entering learning spaces. Please give yourself extra time to get to your classes or work area as there could be delays during busy times.

As of today, almost 10,000 staff and students have uploaded proof of vaccination or a negative test result to NAIT Alert. Thank you for your cooperation and for supporting healthy and safe campuses.

Please read the information below to ensure that you are approved to come to campus as we work towards full implementation of our vaccine policy, which will go into effect November 8.

What’s required to be on campus

Starting October 18, students, staff and visitors who are unable to provide acceptable proof of at least a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine or of a negative rapid test will be asked to leave campus.

  • Staff and students will be required to show photo ID and a green NAIT vaccine QR code from the NAIT Alert app, which demonstrates proof of at least a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine or of a negative test completed within the previous 72 hours. This green NAIT vaccine QR code is the only acceptable form of proof for staff and students.

  • Visitors will need to show a paper or electronic vaccination record or proof of a privately paid COVID-19 PCR or rapid test completed within the previous 72 hours.

Upload your proof of vaccination or negative rapid test

For staff and students who have not already done so, please be sure to upload your proof of vaccination in the NAIT Alert app as soon as possible.

Individuals who are both a NAIT student and staff member need to submit their proof of vaccination or negative test result with both their student and staff credentials. You will need to log out of the app and then log in with your alternate credentials to submit again.

Full details of this process and requirements can be found at nait.ca/vaccine

Please be aware that it may take up to 48 hours for your proof of vaccination to be verified. Proof of a negative test result must be uploaded by noon the day before you plan to be on campus or noon Friday if you need to be on campus on the weekend.

NAIT’s vaccine policy

We have received clarity from the provincial government regarding our mandatory vaccination policy, which will be fully implemented on November 8. There will be a small change to NAIT's processes, which could enable us to start increasing on-campus activity and services one week earlier, on November 1.

Starting November 1, in order to be on campus:

  • you must provide proof through NAIT Alert that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or

  • you must provide proof of a negative rapid test

From November 1 – 7 only, NAIT will cover the cost of rapid testing for students and staff. Instructions on how to submit your rapid test receipt dated November 1 – 7, 2021 for reimbursement will be shared in upcoming communications.

Starting November 8, in order to be on campus you must:

  • provide proof through NAIT Alert that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or
  • have an approved accommodation

As of November 8, rapid testing will not be accepted as an alternative to full COVID-19 vaccination except for those who have an approved or pending accommodation. Requests should be initiated as soon as possible through the NAIT Alert app.

Thank you

Thank you for your patience and cooperation and all that you are doing to keep our campuses safe and healthy.

Everyone coming to campus is reminded to wear a mask or face covering in all indoor spaces and maintain at least 2 metres of physical distance between yourself and others. Please review the on-campus health and safety requirements and the Coming to Campus Checklist
