Several buildings will be closed to students and staff as NAIT continues to take precautions to protect the safety, health and well-being of our community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Access will become increasingly restricted in the days ahead. We will share more details on which buildings will be open and which ones will be closed in a future update.
If you are a student and need to collect belongings and access lockers, please contact NAIT Protective Services at email@example.com to make an appointment. Please be patient as they respond to requests.
Over this weekend, the HP Computer Commons (W203) will be open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Starting on Monday, March 23, students are asked to use the CAT Computer Commons (CAT 215), which will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. but closed April 10 and 13. Student ID cards are required.
Unless it is absolutely necessary for your learning, we ask that you refrain from coming to campus.
Students should only be on campus to
- Access online courses in the Computer Commons if they do not have their own technology
- Access learning resources in the library (appointment only)
- Gather their belongings during scheduled appointment times
Retrieving belongings - staff
Staff who are working from home and need to retrieve belongings from their buildings need to do so by 6 p.m. March 24. For more information on what you can bring home, check Information for NAIT Staff.
When retrieving belongings you should
- Swipe your own One Card to enter the building. Even if you arrive with more than one staff member, make sure each staff member swipes their card. This is for safety and tracking reasons.
- Refrain from using washrooms
- Turn-off unessential equipment (leave your computer on if you need to connect to it through a Virtual Private Network, or VPN)
- Remove perishable food items and house plants
- Practice physical distancing and good hygiene
- Only collect personal or essential items that are absolutely necessary
Learning supports for students
There are resources available through the Learning Services site to help support the transition to online classes. New resources will be added as they are available. The Learning Services team is also available to provide 1 on 1 support to students remotely.
NAIT’s library is closed until further notice, but virtual support, resources and services are available through the library website.
Working on campus
Staff who are still working in a building that remains open should review and follow NAIT’s emergency procedures. All staff should know how to clear an area in the event of an emergency, be aware of the locations of emergency exits and muster points, and review assistance plans for staff still inside. Staff should also follow NAIT’s work alone practices.
For more information, see the if you are working alone on campus section on the Information for NAIT Staff page.
Access for contractors
To minimize personnel on campus, staff who have arranged for contractors, service providers, vendors or tenants to perform work on-site should assess whether these services are essential at this time. If so, you must contact the contractor or service provider immediately to ensure that they have completed this access checklist.
Get the support you need
This is a difficult time for everyone, and we encourage you to seek support if you need it. NAIT thanks all students and staff for their dedication, hard work and support as together we respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
